Are the four Lower Snake River Dams going to be breached to save dwindling salmon runs? Who decides and when? By whose criteria? And at what cost? And who picks up the tab?
The Columbia Basin Badger Club first addressed this issue in 2010, when a speaker from American Rivers presented the argument for breaching the dams to an audience largely made up of breaching opponents. There are many voices in the conversation, which ranges from the courtrooms to the halls of Congress and from Boise to Salem and Olympia. There are so many voices speaking at once that its nearly impossible to hear any single voice clearly. The Columbia Basin Badger Club has invited two veteran northwest journalists, one from Boise the other from the Tri-Cities, to help us consider the cultural, political, and spiritual aspects of the ongoing regional debate over the future of the Lower Snake River Dams.
