As we approach Election Day, Trump and his allies are scrambling in the face of low approval ratings. Their tactics? Blatantly racist attacks– from raiding Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home to repeatedly calling Dr. Abdul El-Sayed “Mohammed” and a “radical jihadist” to Trump spreading racist conspiracy theories about immigrants and the election.
SURJ’s phonebanks specifically target the exact demographic Trump is going after– white working class voters who could go either way. On our phonebanks, we take up the mantle of white people’s responsibility to fight racism by engaging with these folks, naming the racism as a tactic of diversion and division, and pitching them on our long-term vision of solidarity with all working class people.
