For decades, the gun lobby built a massive, multi-billion-dollar myth: that having a gun is the only thing that makes you safe.
They poured money into politics, rhetoric, and advertising to make sure that myth stuck. But our generation grew up living with the devastating reality of that lie. We’ve seen gun violence flood our school hallways, our neighborhood streets, and — more than 80% of the time — our social media feeds.
We’ve felt the fear, the anxiety, and the grief. But we also know that lobbying and court battles alone won’t end this crisis — we need a massive, undeniable culture shift.
And a brand-new, nationally representative study just proved that we are winning that shift online.
A July analysis of Project Unloaded’s Safer Not Using Guns (SNUG) Snapchat campaign revealed something incredible:
- 1 in 6 teens surveyed across the country were aware of the campaign.
- Teens who saw the campaign were 17 percentage points more likely to believe they are safer without guns.
- Over half of the young people reached were teenage boys, and 67% came from homes with guns.
When we meet young people where they actually are, the message sticks.
This is how we dismantle gun culture from the ground up. By empowering high schoolers, college students, and young creators to tell the truth, speak up, and organize their communities, we build a future where no student has to live in fear.
Our movement was built by young people who refused to accept gun violence as normal. Every snap, every share, and every conversation brings us one step closer to the safe future we deserve.
Thank you for standing with us, believing in us, and fighting alongside this generation.
