We need to share something difficult: WAISN is facing a serious funding shortfall.
It is no secret that WAISN and the immigrant communities we organize with have been living through an incredibly difficult and precarious time. At the same time, we’ve had to watch many of the foundations that once funded this immigrant justice work pull back, and state support for the critical infrastructure we’ve built has shrunk under immense pressure from the federal government. As a result, we are making painful decisions to protect the future of this organization and the work it does for immigrant communities across Washington, including reductions to our staff.
The conditions that brought us to this moment did not come out of nowhere. The people in power built a roadmap designed to make them unavoidable1 by intimidating institutions, public agencies, and donors, creating a climate where funders pull back right when immigrant communities need them most.
We are far from the only organization facing these challenges right now, but we want to make something very clear: we will not allow this setback to deter us from our mission and our commitment to our communities.
Nearly 80% of our budget goes directly to salaries, benefits, and the labor of the people who make this work possible. So when our resources shrink, our capacity shrinks too.
WAISN was built on the belief that when immigrant communities are under attack, we take care of each other, because our collective liberation depends on all of us. At a moment when immigrant families are facing more fear and uncertainty, we desperately do not want our ability to show up for them to shrink.
But it’s clear that we cannot do it alone. If institutions and the state are pulling back from funding this work, then building a stronger foundation of support from our own communities becomes even more important.

Necesitamos compartir algo difícil con usted. En este momento, WAISN enfrenta una grave falta de fondos.
No es un secreto que WAISN y las comunidades inmigrantes con las que trabajamos estamos atravesando un momento increíblemente difícil e incierto. Al mismo tiempo, muchas de las fundaciones que antes apoyaban el trabajo de la justicia para los inmigrantes han reducido sus fondos, y el financiamiento estatal para los programas y recursos que hemos construido se ha reducido bajo una enorme presión del gobierno federal.
Como resultado, estamos tomando decisiones dolorosas para proteger el futuro de WAISN y el trabajo que realiza para las comunidades inmigrantes en todo Washington, incluyendo una reducción de nuestro personal.
Las condiciones que nos trajeron hasta aquí no aparecieron de la nada. La gente en el poder construyó un plan para hacerlos inevitables1 intimidando a instituciones, agencias públicas y donantes, creando un clima en el que los financiadores se retiran justo cuando nuestras comunidades de inmigrantes más lo necesitan.
No somos la única organización que está enfrentando estos desafíos, pero queremos dejar algo muy claro: no permitiremos que este desafío nos desvíe de nuestra misión, ni de nuestro compromiso a las comunidades que por casi diez años han contado con nuestro apoyo.
Casi el 80% de nuestro presupuesto se usa para pagar los salarios, beneficios y el trabajo de las personas que hacen posible esta labor. Por eso, cuando nuestros recursos disminuyen, también disminuye nuestra capacidad para ayudar a nuestras comunidades.
WAISN nació de una idea sencilla: cuando atacan a nuestras comunidades inmigrantes, nos cuidamos mutuamente, porque nuestra liberación colectiva depende de todos nosotros. Y en un momento en que las familias inmigrantes están viviendo con tanto miedo e incertidumbre, no queremos que disminuya nuestra capacidad de estar a su lado.
Pero está claro que no podemos hacer esto solos. Si las instituciones y el estado están reduciendo su apoyo a este trabajo, entonces es aún más importante construir una base de apoyo desde nuestras propias comunidades.
