Have you seen the headlines about the Texas GOP’s voter suppression?
Unfortunately, this is nothing new for Republicans. In fact, they are opening up their old playbook — purging voters from the rolls to hold on to their power.
More than a million Texans have been placed on “voter suspense” lists, forcing them to update their voter registration status or face ineligibility to vote this year.
Meanwhile, Tarrant County has announced plans to slash the number of polling places where people can vote, which will result in longer lines, lower turnout, and confusion among voters.
We can’t let Republicans keep getting away with these voter suppression and intimidation tactics. We’ve got to get the word out to Texas voters and ensure they show up in such big numbers that we overwhelm the GOP anti-voter crusade. Headlines like these can be discouraging at first, but for me they’re a call to action. A call to keep backing the next generation of democratic fighters who will fight tooth and nail to stop these kinds of attacks on our rights before they ever get off the ground.
We are supporting several young progressive candidates in Texas, including Kristian Carranza, Julio Salinas, and Tyler Smith, all of whom represent the very best of the next generation of leaders. They refuse to take corporate cash, relying instead on grassroots support to fund their campaigns. And that means that they need people like you to help them face down voter suppression and win.
