When Donald Trump federalized local police forces and deployed National Guard troops to American cities, he promised it would “stop crime.”

Now, the data is in…and it proves what we knew all along.

A groundbreaking new analysis from the Center for American Progress (CAP) evaluated National Guard deployments across multiple cities, datasets, and timeframes. Their conclusion? The deployments had NO measurable impact on reducing violent crime, homicides, or gun violence.

In fact, violent crime and murder rates were already dropping significantly in American cities before the troops were sent in.

Trump is taking credit for a pre-existing downward trend to justify authoritarian power grabs and federal overreach in our communities. And the price tag? Taxpayers are on the hook for more than $1.7 billion by the end of this year.

• $1.7 BILLION to put active-duty military and federal troops on city streets.
• $500 MILLION CUT from federal grants supporting crime victim services, juvenile justice, and evidence-based community violence intervention programs.

Instead of funding real, community-led solutions — like youth outreach workers, crisis responders, and proven violence intervention strategies — the administration is defunding what works to pay for a costly political charade.

And when researchers like CAP expose these facts? Trump lashes out and threatens lawsuits to silence them.
