A heartbreaking story emerged out of Ashburn, Virginia. Mia Bieniemy — wife of NFL coach Eric Bieniemy — was shot inside her own home, allegedly by her 27-year-old son following a domestic dispute.
She suffered serious injuries and underwent emergency surgery. While we are relieved to learn she is currently in stable condition, our hearts are heavy for her and the entire family as they begin the difficult journey of healing.
Stories like this are a painful reminder of a dangerous reality: when a firearm is present during a domestic dispute, the likelihood of a fatal outcome skyrockets.
No matter who you are, what neighborhood you live in, or how strong a family’s bonds may seem, the easy availability of guns transforms moments of crisis into life-threatening trauma.
At March For Our Lives, we believe deeply that a safer, peaceful world is possible. But policy alone won’t get us there; all the legal briefs in the world cannot replace the deep culture shift our country needs around gun ownership and safety.
