Last week, one of the strongest assault weapons bans in the country was struck down by a federal appeals court.
For the first time, a federal appellate court ruled that a state’s assault weapons ban violates the Second Amendment. This decision could have consequences far beyond New Jersey as similar laws head toward the U.S. Supreme Court.
This isn’t just about one state.
It’s about whether communities across the country will continue to have the power to pass laws designed to reduce the devastating impact of weapons that have been used in some of the deadliest mass shootings in our nation’s history.
We’ve seen this pattern before. Every legal setback becomes another attempt to weaken lifesaving gun safety laws nationwide. And if we don’t organize now, more protections could be at risk.
March For Our Lives was founded because young people refused to accept that gun violence was inevitable. We organized when politicians wouldn’t act. We marched, voted, educated our communities, and built a movement that changed the national conversation.
We’re not stopping now.
As courts continue to reshape the future of gun safety laws, our movement has to be stronger than ever. We’re organizing young people, fighting for evidence-based policies, and ensuring that the voices of survivors are never drowned out.
But we can’t do it without supporters like you.
The fight for safer communities isn’t over. In many ways, it’s entering a new chapter.
