The hospital is supposed to be a place of healing. But for Dr. Thomas K. Lew, an ER doctor writing in USA Today, it’s a constant reminder of how deep our gun violence crisis runs.

He recently shared a story about a patient admitted with pneumonia who woke up in a cold sweat. The steady beep of the hospital heart monitor didn’t soothe him — it triggered his PTSD, reminding him of a mass shooting he survived years ago.
The trauma of gun violence doesn’t end when the physical wounds heal. It lingers in our chests, in our schools, and in our neighborhoods.
As a physician, Dr. Lew spends his life trying to save gunshot victims. But he admitted something heavy: our politicians have the power to save far more lives than he ever could in his entire career.
With the simple stroke of a pen, lawmakers could pass and enforce commonsense gun laws. Instead, we are watching the current administration roll back hard-won safety rules. They are weakening enforcement and even trying to scrub the reality of this public health crisis from government websites.
We aren’t letting anger paralyze us. We are channeling it into hope, education, and action. We are training the next generation of youth activists to shift the culture and vote out the politicians who care more about gun lobby checks than human lives.
But we cannot do this without a steady, reliable foundation.
We need your support. Chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can today.
We’ve proven what young people can do when we stand together. Let’s do it again.
