MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
It’s Friday, Washington Democrats!
Our Hearts Break for Longview
Washington Democrats mourn the lives lost in a chemical explosion at a Longview paper mill earlier this week. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this terrible tragedy. We thank the first responders who rushed into a dangerous situation to save lives and rescue those injured.
Working for Washington
We are less than ONE MONTH away from the Washington State Democratic Party’s 2026 State Convention! I want to thank all of our delegates who will attend in person or virtually to help decide our Party’s policy platform, engage our caucuses, and train to become even more effective organizers and party leaders.
We are pulling out all the stops to ensure everyone has a tremendous convention that will power us into the August 4 Primary election and onto the General Election! I am proud to announce that our Juneteenth Celebration of Black Excellence featuring Attorney General Nick Brown has already SOLD OUT, and tickets for our Saturday night Convention Reception are going fast. If you’re joining us in Spokane and have been waiting to buy your tickets, hurry now so you don’t regret missing out later! You can buy tickets online for our Saturday night Convention Reception here.
Celebrate Pride with WA Democrats
Washington and Stonewall Democrats are celebrating Pride with a who’s who of elected officials and featuring a drag performance from Harper Bizarre! Washington state has led the nation and the world when it comes to embracing our LGBTQIA+ family, friends, and neighbors, and this is our chance to celebrate joy while centering the voices who are fighting back against the Trump-Vance administration’s bigotry and hate. I hope to see you there!

Democrats Fight Back
Governor Ferguson has been working hard to support Washington’s children. During Mental Health Awareness Month, his office released a report showing how hundreds of Washington kids experiencing severe behavioral or mental health crises were sent to hospitals without a medical reason to be there instead of receiving the services they actually needed. With the launch of the Rapid Care Team, hundreds of children and their families have been prevented from slipping through the cracks. The median case resolution time has decreased from 78 days to 30 days. The Rapid Care Team has received 200 referrals for children in crisis since its launch and can now provide a valuable lifeline for families facing some of the hardest circumstances.
Governor Ferguson also attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Voices of Tomorrow Center for Learning and Healing in Tukwila. This facility will include three classrooms for children in Washington’s preschool program for low-income families and will provide behavioral support directly to students, their parents, and the broader community.
U.S. Senator Patty Murray is working hard to stop the $1.776 BILLION slush fund that Trump’s personal attorney and acting-DOJ chief pushed through as a settlement from a lawsuit against the IRS. Calling the corruption “staggering,” Senator Murray will use her perch on the Senate Appropriations Committee to block the slush fund through the bipartisan appropriations process. Thank you, Senator Murray, for standing up to this blatant corruption that would rob American taxpayers!
Congresswoman Dr. Kim Schrier is raising the alarm about deteriorating conditions in one of Washington’s most beautiful landscapes. Citing warnings from local officials, recreation groups, conservation organizations, and the public, she is calling upon the Trump-Vance administration to maintain sustainable access to The Enchantments Wilderness Area. Thank you, Congresswoman Schrier, for fighting to protect Washington’s natural heritage and supporting outdoor recreation!
Congressman Adam Smith authored an OpEd in The Hill taking aim at the recent House of Representatives’ passage of a housing bill capping hedge fund ownership of single family homes at 350. He persuasively argues that a cap can be lobbied upwards. Rep. Smith argues that what American housing policy actually needs is a phased-in ban on hedge fund ownership of single family homes. This actionable housing policy would provide a range of benefits and is something Democratic majorities should consider in state houses and Congress.

WHAT I’M WATCHING
A crack in the polling floor puts Trump in new territory, The New York Times
The latest polling from The New York Times finds Trump’s approval at its lowest point in either of his terms. This same poll shows Democrats with a double-digit lead in the generic ballot. Polls don’t vote, but they do provide a snapshot of the electorate. Washington Democrats are working hard to ensure we translate anger and discontent with the Trump-Vance administration into votes to take back the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Stopping corruption, reviving oversight and accountability, and putting forward real solutions to the affordability crisis facing our country will only be possible with Democratic majorities.
Thanks for all you do,

Chair Shasti Conrad
