A generation of American youth has grown up practicing active shooter drills, knowing that in this country, safety is never a given. So, for the Met Gala this year, we decided to ask a different question: If fashion is art, shouldn’t it reflect the reality of the world we live in?
We partnered with designer Clarence Ruth of COTTE D’ARMES and Act 4 Artists to create The Bulletproof Dress, worn by the incredible Racquel Chevremont.
Our placement was entirely deliberate. While the crowds cheered for pure aesthetic escapism, Racquel stood as a powerful, elegant confrontation.
The gown’s striking red color wasn’t just a design choice, it was a deeply emotional tribute to the bloodshed inflicted by gun violence across America. The bodice was crafted in the exact shape of a bulletproof vest.
It was fashion as a declaration: a demand to protect our children!
If our message reached you, please donate $10 today to support our effort to create a better future for our children; one free of gun violence.
Guns remain the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. It is a manmade pandemic completely orchestrated by a greedy gun lobby. Our kids deserve the exact same level of care, creativity, and structural protection that we invest in high-society celebrations.
Our Met Gala stunt was a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve when we demand a shift in perspective. We made the gown impossible to ignore. But a culture shift is only the first step, we have to back it up with legislative work on the ground.
We proved during our very first youth-led uprising that we can force accountability even under the toughest political climates, and we are ready to do it again. But we can’t keep up these massive cultural interventions and grassroots programs without you.
Thank you for standing with us, refusing to look away, and demanding a future where our kids are finally guaranteed the right to grow up safe.
