Last night, Leaders We Deserve-endorsed candidates Christian Menefee and Julio Salinas won their elections in Texas. Congrats, Christian and Julio!
Voters in HD-41 knew exactly what was at stake in Julio’s race. They looked at their options — a wealthy, establishment-backed Democrat who is part of the same broken politics that has held the Rio Grande Valley back for decades — and Julio, a 26-year-old, fearless leader who was raised in this community and has spent his entire career fighting for the people who built it.
They chose Julio. And now the working people of the Rio Grande Valley will finally have a fighter representing them in Austin. That’s why the work we do in primary races is so important. With your grassroots support, we were able to ensure the Democratic nomination in a critical state like Texas was won by Julio, a true progressive voice, and not his establishment-pick opponent, who spent years voting with Republicans and attending Tea Party events.
And in TX-18, Christian Menefee is headed back to Congress to continue being a fearless fighter for his district. Christian has spent years taking on Trump and his allies in court — and winning. He’s been a powerful check on this administration’s lawlessness, pushed back against their attacks on immigrant communities, and stood up to Greg Abbott’s corrupt political machine. Now he’s going back to Congress to keep fighting and delivering for the people of Houston.
Julio & Christian mark our 10th and 11th wins this cycle — and I couldn’t be prouder of the impact we’ve been able to have in these races and across the country, because of your support.
It’s wins like these that prove something I know keeps the establishment up at night: you can’t fool voters by being a Democrat in name only. Earning voters’ trust and winning elections means being a leader that does more than just talk. It means showing up for your community, getting in the ring to fight for them, and having the courage to take on the corporations and special interests that are making life harder for working people.
That’s Julio and Christian — exactly the kind of leaders this movement was built to back. We’re deeply proud to have endorsed them this cycle, and there’s so much more to come.
