The Yakima Herald says:
As devastating as [cutting Medicaid] would be for individuals, it also imperils critical basic funding for hospitals and nursing homes around the state.
“Hospitals will close in Washington state, in rural parts of our state and urban parts of our state,” Ferguson warned last month. “Take that to the bank. That’s going to happen. Nursing homes in our state will close.”
Newhouse is sticking to his story, though, falsely claiming that the Medicaid system is rife with fraud and waste, and that this bill merely cleans up the books and keeps benefits flowing for legitimate recipients.
But Newhouse is no fool. He chose his words carefully before he voted.
He may have promised not to directly cut Medicaid, but he knew full well that’s exactly what H.R. 1 would ultimately mean. Now he’s coldly trying to justify turning his back on the harm this heartless legislation will cause the 4th District.
That’s not just disappointing or dismaying. It’s disgraceful.
Rep. Newhouse can change his vote when this bill comes up again. We know that personal stories and experiences can powerfully persuade members of Congress. Can you share your reasons for opposing Medicaid cuts?
