Do you make over $250,000 a year from sales of stocks and bonds, friend?
If you’re like me — and 99.8% of Washingtonians — the answer is probably NO. That means you don’t have to pay Washington’s capital gains tax — it’s that simple.
But now, hedge fund millionaire Brian Heywood — one of the 0.2% affected by the capital gains tax – put Initiative 2109 on the ballot to get rid of this tax and avoid paying what he owes.
How are YOU voting on I-2109? Take our one-question poll to tell us where you stand:
The capital gains tax provides funding for childcare and education across Washington and does not apply to the sale of a home, small business, farmland, farm equipment, or anything in a retirement or college savings account. If I-2109 passes and this tax is repealed, it will drastically worsen our school funding crisis. We can’t afford any more cuts.
If Brian Heywood has millions of dollars to throw at this initiative, he has enough to pay this tax.
Our children and their futures are on the line. If I-2109 passes, Washington state will lose billions in funding for K-12 education, higher education, school construction, early learning, and childcare. So tell us: How are you voting on I-2109?
We can’t afford any more cuts — our children’s futures depend on this funding. Together, we will protect funding for schools and childcare across our state.
