MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
It’s Friday, Washington Democrats!
Working for Washington
Washington, we need your help. Our next major action following the third No King nationwide rally is “No School, No Work, No Shopping,” on Friday, May 1, International Workers’ Day. Here in Washington state, and around the country, workers, students, and families will be marching, rallying, walking out and taking action to demand ICE out of our communities, tax the rich to ensure our families and not their fortunes come first, and expand our democracy to defend fair elections. Please commit to these actions here.
Last weekend, Washington Democrats joined our partners in Chelan and Douglas Counties to host a Rural Summit in Wenatchee. The summit featured trainings on how to run for office, tell your story, and organize to win in our rural communities. Click on the image above or go here for a short video I made after we wrapped up the summit. I want to thank everyone who joined us to build Democratic power in every corner of our state. If you want to organize your community with Washington Democrats, find an upcoming New Volunteer Information Session or Deep Canvassing Training here.
Filing week is coming up FAST! Please consider strengthening our party by becoming a Precinct Committee Officer. Precinct Committee Officers or PCOs are the on-the-ground neighborhood party officials who help us contact voters, vote on endorsements in their Legislative Districts and County Parties. They can even help appoint legislators when there’s a vacancy. Even if your precinct already has a PCO, you can serve as an acting or appointed PCO for a nearby precinct that doesn’t have one. When filing week begins, we’ll be posting the link to file to become a PCO – so stay tuned!
In last year’s elections, Washington Democrats helped field test new organizing tools for the DNC. This week, the DNC unveiled their new Playbook for 2026 campaigns and beyond. Traditional organizing tactics like phone calls and door knocks are decreasing in utility as more people screen their calls. Despite making more phone calls and door knocks in 2024 than in any previous Presidential campaign, we still came up short. This Playbook will give candidates, campaigns, local parties, and organizers the best practices and tools to ensure we win, not just this year, but every year. Check it out by clicking the image above or going here.
From Kirkland City Council to 11 terms in the WA State Legislature, Rep. Larry Springer is wrapping up over two decades of public service. Throughout his career, he’s dedicated his work to bipartisan problem-solving and steady leadership on issues like wildfire preparedness, affordable housing, strengthening firearm safety rules, and early learning. Thank you, Rep. Springer, for your years of public service, leadership, and dedication to the families and communities of Washington state.
Zoom Webinar Vulnerability
If you or your organization conducts webinar training via Zoom, please be aware that there is a website scraping Zoom webinars for content. The site uses AI to record them and shares those recordings with the public. WebinarTV scrapes public webinar links and uses AI tools to record them and post data on the speakers and what is discussed. This is generally done without the host’s permission and often they have no knowledge that this is even being done.
Here’s an article that explains what’s happening. For those of us who work with vulnerable communities, this is obviously very concerning. Here are steps you can take to protect your webinars:
- When creating webinars, make registration mandatory so you can see who is sitting in your audience.
- Check your webinar registrations and set your webinar up to require approval on all participants from someone on your staff. This way you can reject any user that looks suspicious.
- If you are hosting a webinar with particularly sensitive content don’t post it publicly on the web. Instead use your trusted channels like your email and text lists.
- Please go to https://webinartv.us/ and search for your affiliate and important partners.
- Please share this information with your partners, especially if they do work with vulnerable communities.
How to ask WebinarTV to remove a video
- Find the exact WebinarTV page for the video.
Copy the full web address for every video you want removed. - Check whether your organization got an email from WebinarTV about the video. You can search your inbox for @webinartv.us. If you did, look for the removal link in that email. WebinarTV says removal is supposed to be “1 click easy,” so try this link first.
- If you do not see an email from WebinarTV send a written removal request to support@WebinarTV.us.
WebinarTV’s Terms of Service say hosts can withdraw permission for WebinarTV to use their webinar content by sending a written request to that address. - In the email, clearly say:
- your organization name
- the video URL or URLs
- that the video contains private information
- that the people shown are vulnerable community members
- that you are asking for removal as the host, organizer, or rights holder
- Ask them to remove all copies and stop further distribution.
Their Terms say they will remove the content from the platform and cease further distribution within a reasonable timeframe after a written request. - Save a copy of what you sent. Keep the sent email, screenshots, and the list of links.
- If you do not hear back quickly, send a follow-up.
Reply to the same email thread, repeat the URLs, and note that the videos expose private information. - If the situation is urgent, say that clearly in the subject line.
Example: “Urgent removal request: private information about vulnerable community members.”
Democrats Fight Back
Congratulations to Virginia Democrats and voters who pushed back against Trump’s mid-decade redistricting, creating five new blue-leaning House seats. This is a necessary step until Democrats take back Congress and the White House and end gerrymandering once and for all! While Republicans in Red States push unpopular partisan maps, Blue States have gone directly to the voters to secure changed maps to undo Trump’s anti-democratic push. The fight isn’t over, this new Virginia map still needs to go before their state’s Supreme Court, but this is a big win for our country’s efforts to stop the Trump-Vance chaos!
Washington again leads the country, breaking new ground in policy with the first-of-its-kind chatbot disclosure law thanks to the leadership of Governor Bob Ferguson. This new law requires people and businesses to provide clear disclosure to consumers when they are interacting with an AI “companion” chatbot. This is an important guardrail for consumers, especially younger ones, who interact with AI. Thank you, Governor Ferguson and Washington Democrats in the state legislature who are making our state a leader in responsible AI use!
Governor Bob Ferguson announced a partnership with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Children, Youth, and Families to distribute $56 million in grants for new construction and renovation projects in 40 cities and 17 counties across Washington. These grants are expected to create 2,000 additional child care slots. Just another example of Democrats delivering for our state!
Governor Ferguson also joined U.S. Senator Cantwell and more than 30 tribes, elected officials, outdoor businesses, sportsmen, recreationists, and conservation organizations to speak out against Trump’s proposal to eliminate the “roadless rule” in our national forests. About one third of America’s forests currently have protections from new road construction associated with large-scale logging. Trump’s proposed repeal would open nearly 45 million acres of pristine national forest land to development, including 2 million acres right here in our state.
Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and Attorney General Nick Brown continue to defend our constitutional rights and Washington’s election system of safe, secure, and convenient vote-from-home elections against dangerous and conspiratorial attacks from the WAGOP. Let’s be clear: in over more than 40 years of voting in Washington, with millions and millions of ballots cast – 15 total cases of confirmed non-citizen voting were found. The last case of voter fraud in Washington was actually a Washington Republican legislator who voted in the wrong district to benefit himself! Thank you, Secretary of State Hobbs and Attorney General Brown for fighting the Republican misinformation machines and protecting our sacred right to vote!

WHAT I’M WATCHING
Ten retiring senators and representatives: Here’s what would surprise Americans about Congress,
NOTUS
Once again, NOTUS has a terrific compilation of perspectives, this time from retiring congressmembers. Of course, Washington’s Republican Representative Dan Newhouse (himself a multi-millionaire) says no one is there for the money, but he’s sure to benefit from the Congressional Republican Budget that cut $1 TRILLION from Medicaid over 10 years while slashing taxes for the ultra-wealthy like himself. Some of the perspectives are serious, others less so, but each is a short read. I encourage you to check it out!
Thanks for all you do,

Chair Shasti Conrad
