On Tuesday night, the world waited to see if Donald Trump would follow through on his deranged promise to extinguish an entire civilization and potentially spark a nuclear apocalypse. Meanwhile, I was in my kitchen making fajitas while watching 4/7’s election results roll in across four states.

That is the strange reality of our political environment right now. The stakes feel enormous and the rhetoric coming out of the White House sounds like a doomsday movie but that’s precisely why Democrats keep doing the work. Stepping up, learning to work on a campaign, and showing up to the ballot box.

There will be elections somewhere in America almost every Tuesday for the rest of the year — this week, voters had plenty to say. Good. Because right now, speaking up is critical.

Under the shadow of a mad king threatening destruction, Democrats kept living their lives and doing the work, because the work is too important not to do.
