On this day 27 years ago, 13 people lost their lives and 24 were injured at Columbine High School, the then-largest school shooting in history.
All of the school children who’ve grown up in the past quarter of a century since Columbine can be considered part of the school-shooting generation. We’ve lived with the knowledge that school isn’t safe, that any public space isn’t safe. We all know what to do if the worst happens and we’re in the same space as an active shooter — because we’ve been through the drills.
Since that day in 1999, we have mourned the lost lives, questioned how such a tragedy could happen, and were promised that we’d prevent another tragedy like it.
Unfortunately, too little has changed in the last 27 years.
We’ve had to grieve lost lives — at schools, movie theaters, places of worship, and grocery stores. Each casualty is more than just a statistic — they’re victims of a failed system, a broken system that has done too little to make a difference.
We can’t let these anniversaries pass in silence.
Every year, the same stories keep repeating.
Too many funerals. And yet every year, students and families keep rising up and demand accountability.
March for Our Lives is training those leaders, running campaigns that hold lawmakers and the gun industry accountable, and advocating for gun safety legislation so we can build a better future for all of us.
That’s how we turn grief into policy.
We’re proud of the work our movement does every single day — but it only happens because people like you support us. Can you give what you can now to honor those we lost and protect the next generation?
Together, we can make sure these anniversaries are remembered with action, not resignation.
Thanks,
— Team March For Our Lives
