Dear Friend,
Washington families just made history. 🎉
After over 24 hours of debate, the Washington State House of Representatives has passed the Millionaires Tax (SB 6346)! Champion lawmakers did not waver when faced with 80 amendments, the vast majority from Republicans trying to sink the bill. But lawmakers stood strong knowing that moms, parents, and caregivers from across the state were with them.
The Millionaires Tax has already passed the Senate and now heads to the Governor’s desk! This is OUR win. Thank you.
Here’s what this means for Washington families:
Only an estimated 20,000 households—the top 0.2% of Washingtonians—will pay a 9.9% tax on income over $1 million. The first $1 million is completely exempt, and it does not apply to home or real estate sales. And because the first $1 million is deducted, if someone earns $1,000,001 their total tax bill would be…..10 cents.
This is a targeted, commonsense solution that protects working people while generating the reliable revenue our state needs.
For too long, working families have been fronting the cost of a broken system—choosing between health care and groceries, child care and rent. Today, that starts to change.
We are so grateful to every Representative who voted yes, and to every single one of you who signed on, spoke out, and stood with us. Our lawmakers hear from us often—and together, we showed up loud and clear.
With so much gratitude,
– Lauren, Sara, Maricela, Kristin, Olivia, and the whole MomsRising / MamásConPoder team
