This weekend, SURJ members across the country joined the millions of us who marched, sang, and made it clear: No Kings, No War, No ICE.
So what’s next? Ezra Levin, one of the lead national organizers of No Kings, made it clear: “The next major national action of this movement is not just going to be another protest. It is a tactical escalation.”
May Day is our next big move as a movement. Alongside our national partners, we’re calling for no business as usual: no work, no school, no shopping. We’re hitting the streets– and hitting the billionaires where it hurts: their bottom line.
Will you show up with SURJ to make sure white communities stand alongside our national partners like the Chicago Teachers Union, Indivisible, the Working Families Party, the National Education Association, and unions, immigrant organizations, and other social justice leaders?
This Wednesday at 8 pm ET at our bi-weekly Block by Block organizing training program, we’re talking about our May Day plans. Can you join us?
No previous attendance at the Block by Block trainings necessary.
This year’s May Day actions will be an economic show of force inspired by the Day of Truth and Freedom in Minnesota, when people across the state came together for a general strike in response to the ICE occupation in the Twin Cities area.
It’s also a pillar of SURJ’s organizing strategy over the next three years. We’re clear that we need to be fighting at the ballot box– getting the most aligned candidates possible in office, while blocking MAGA from taking more power. AND we must be ready to stop business as usual. So we’re training our members in strategic noncompliance– and this May Day is our next collective step in that process.
Can you join us this Wednesday to say yes to turning up the heat on May 1st?
In solidarity,
SURJ
