The past year of President Trump’s presidency has left no doubt about it: We’re in the fight of our lives, Kendall.
His administration has created chaos, trampled our rights, and harmed so many of us.
But the ACLU has been fighting back – and winning. During President Trump’s first year in office, we took over 230 legal actions against his administration, the majority of which successfully defeated, diluted, or delayed their anti-liberty agenda. We have a plan, we’ve been ready for this fight since day one, and we will not stop fighting.
When President Trump comes for free speech, for immigrant communities, for trans rights, and more, we will continue to be there with a plan to take him on and win. Because democracy doesn’t defend itself – people do. And together, we will keep showing up.

“We have a plan, and we’re ready to fight for free speech, immigrants rights, trans justice, and so much more.”
AJ Hikes, ACLU
What the ACLU does over the next three years and beyond – and how well we do it – will play a role in shaping the course of American history. And as someone who feels the impact of your donations every day, I can tell you personally that your support is especially crucial right now. As an unapologetic queer Black person, my rights depend on the ACLU continuing to show up in courtrooms, Congress, and the streets. And yours do too.
The ACLU is ready for this fight. But what we are able to accomplish depends on the support of generous donors like you.
We’ve been defending democracy for over 105 years – and we aren’t stopping now. Thank you for being part of that history.
Onward,
AJ Hikes
