Re: WA’s No on 2117 Campaign Final Update: We Defeated I-2117
Date: November 11, 2024
All across the Evergreen State, Washingtonians overwhelmingly said NO to Initiative 2117. As of today, 62 percent of Washington voters rejected I-2117. That’s a whopping 24 point margin. With this victory, we’ve protected our air and water, our health and safety, and our transportation investments. We also sent a signal to other states that what we’ve done here can be replicated elsewhere.
Our unprecedented statewide coalition grew to nearly 600 organizations and Tribal Nations.
- 20 WA Tribal Nations and the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians and Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) in OR
- 200+ Individual Doctors and Nurses, and Leading Health and Medical Groups and Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, the American Lung Association, and Washington State Nurses Association
- 35+ Labor Unions including the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO
- Small Businesses & Leading Companies including the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Amazon, Microsoft, REI, and 50+ craft breweries
- And even more organizations, including the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters, Washington Conservation Action, and the Washington State Medical Association.
Our grassroots organizing program, consisting of seven full-time organizing staff across Washington state who work in partnership with local community organizations and volunteers, reached hundreds of thousands of voters on the phones, doors, and at events.
- Our volunteers knocked on 180,000 doors and made 176,000 phone calls.
- We mobilized over 2,000 unique volunteers across 2,800 volunteer shifts.
- We reached voters in all 39 counties in Washington.
In local and national news outlets, we landed a plethora of stories, op-eds, and letters to the editor highlighting the threat of I-2117 and won editorial board endorsements from nearly every outlet that endorsed in this race.

On behalf of our campaign team, coalition partners, and volunteers, thank you for your support and all you do to make Washington a healthier, better place to live, work, and explore.
With gratitude,
Wellesley Daniels
