Washington is still considering budget cuts that would roll back programs people count on when violence happens and when prevention can still work.
Cuts to victim services and community-based violence intervention do not “save” money. They push costs onto survivors, hospitals, schools, first responders, and families, and they make it harder to prevent the next shooting before it happens.
These programs are part of our public safety infrastructure. When funding gets squeezed, the impact is immediate: fewer advocates, fewer services, fewer prevention partners on the ground, and fewer opportunities to intervene before someone is hurt.
Legislators are negotiating the final budget right now. If they hear from us loudly and directly, we can stop these cuts.
Will you email your legislators today and tell them to protect victim services and protect prevention funding?
Thank you for showing up. This is one of those moments where a few minutes from each of us can change the outcome.
