A couple of weeks ago, we sent along a petition about the Millionaire’s Tax proposal currently moving through the legislature. Responses were overwhelmingly supportive, to say the least:
Washingtonians get it.
Democrats’ proposal for a millionaire’s tax, a 9.9% tax on income over $1 million, would affect fewer than 0.5% of people in our state and could raise up to $3 billion a year for schools, healthcare, housing, and vital public services.
And it’s badly needed.
Right now, working families in the bottom 20% pay nearly 14% of their income in state and local taxes—while the wealthiest 1% pay just over 4%. That’s not fair. And it’s not who we are.
Momentum is building, but lawmakers need to see just how strong public support for this legislation actually is.
