Inspired by the people of Minneapolis, Americans are rising up across the country and putting serious cracks in ICE and the MAGA machine. A federal judge ordered the release of 5-year-old Liam Ramos with a scathing opinion, the Senate has blocked ICE funding, Target sales are down, Republicans are defecting– and an overwhelming majority of Americans disapprove of ICE’s violence.1
We are in a critical moment where we can use this momentum to defund ICE and deliver a massive blow to Trump’s racist agenda– if we keep organizing.
Millions of white people are ready to get into action to defend their neighbors– and they need training, support, and community to do it. Since the beginning of this year, SURJ has already trained thousands, and we’re just getting started.
Can you donate to SURJ today to help us take advantage of this moment?
In just the past month:
- Over 10,000 white people joined our mass calls to get trained to organize against ICE in their own communities.
- Three SURJ organizers answered a call to go to Minneapolis to support expanding parent organizing projects to protect schools in the Twin Cities from ICE, including many white parents escorting and driving non-white kids to and from school, ensuring the kids and their families are kept safe.
- Our members have made thousands of calls to senators, led actions against Hilton and Target and other corporations supporting ICE, and are getting trained to organize to lay the foundations to fight back against ICE in their local communities.
Our member Deb attended a training last week where she was one of 160 people who committed to hosting a potluck in their neighborhood to start organizing on a local level. She shared this:
I invited people over for donuts and coffee, and with their permission I made a map of our neighborhood with contact info for everyone. We’re getting to know each other beyond just our names and which houses we live in. I live in a small but diverse town with a large immigrant population and fear and threat have come to town already. And I know the only way to build a resilient community is through connection, relationships, and social trust. In my neighborhood and with my SURJ chapter, we’re gathering to do that.
Millions of white people are getting activated right now, and SURJ is moving them into action. None of this is possible without your support.
We need millions more white people all over the country to be trained and ready to show up in solidarity to kick ICE out of every town and city– and to put a halt to the billionaire agenda’s death march for all of us.
Can you give a gift today to help us keep meeting this moment?
In solidarity,
SURJ
