Renee Good and Alex Pretti should be alive today. ICE is out of control in Minnesota– and organizers on the ground there are calling for an even greater display of national solidarity.
Last week, over 3,000 SURJ members joined us to get trained to take action to stand with Minnesotans. Tomorrow, Tues. Jan. 27 at 8 pm ET, join us for another mass training to take national action against ICE and learn how to take the first steps to organize in your own neighborhood.
Last Friday, all eyes were on Minnesota. Over 75,000 people marched in sub-zero temperatures. Tens of thousands participated in the general strike. And hundreds of thousands of us across the country took action in solidarity with them. Minnesota called– and the country answered.
Last week on our mass call, we trained SURJ members to take action against the corporations supporting ICE activity, focusing on Hilton– the hotel chain that has continued to house ICE agents– and we hosted dozens of protests across the country as a part of the national ICE Out day of action. Our Menlo Park circle and SURJ Santa Clara chapter folks pictured below, who showed up at the Santa Clara Hilton with a community partner organization.
The pressure is working. A YouGov poll came out today that shows that a majority of Americans support abolishing ICE.
Now is the time to continue to fight hard on all fronts to use the momentum of this moment.
Campaigns are in motion to target corporate collaborators and senators who may vote on ICE funding as early as this week. And communities across the country are getting into formation to defend their neighborhoods and take care of one another.
Join us tomorrow night to keep up the work.
In solidarity,
SURJ
