Last week, we asked you to email your lawmakers to tell them why you support a Millionaires Tax – thank you to those of you who took action! We know that when we take the time to speak up to our legislators, they listen.
There’s still time to act. While our lawmakers consider ways to balance WA’s budget $2.3 billion shortfall, we need to make sure they understand the impact that cuts have on Washington families and communities. We need to tell them WHY we’re fighting so hard for the super-rich to pay their share.
A Millionaires Tax would raise nearly $3.5 billion/year to fund the crucial services Washingtonians rely on, like transportation, housing, food assistance, health care, education, child care, and more. We can’t face more cuts – it’s time to tax mega-millionaires and billionaires.
Have you felt the impacts of cuts in your community? Do you believe in economic justice? Take a moment to tell your lawmakers your reasons for supporting a Millionaires Tax!
Take a look at some of the reasons IWN activists have shared with legislators so far
“It is high time that the richest of the rich begin paying their fair share of the resources they receive from the services our government provides. The rich are THE largest beneficiaries of government spending of ANY group of Americans. It’s time they paid their fair share of that cost.” -Hans
“Let’s infuse some humanity, decency and fairness into the Washington State tax code, once and for all. It’s obscene that the rich and the super-rich continue to grow endlessly wealthier while so many of our fellow citizens struggle to get by or even put food on the table.” -William
“There can be little doubt that at this point the poor and middle class of Washington are subsidizing the rich. We need to craft a tax that will make those who have made fortunes here pay their fair share of what it costs to sustain the economic environment in which they have prospered.” -Joe
We’re coming together to tell lawmakers: No more cuts, tax the super-rich. It’s time to add your voice!
