We are starting off this legislative session strong by gathering momentum on a bill designed to strengthen Washington’s laws around the manufacturing of firearms using 3D printers, CNC milling machines, and digital firearm files.
In Washington State, we’ve already seen law enforcement making arrests of individuals in possession of 3D printed guns, most recently in Lacey, where an individual was found with an assortment of 3D printed weapons. Across our country, the number of 3D printed guns recovered at crime scenes increased 1,000% in 2024. This is part of a broader surge in untraceable “privately made firearms”, as the ATF reports submissions for tracing jumped from 1,629 (2017) to 19,273 (2021), and warns this data likely undercounts the problem because these firearms are harder to identify and trace.
This matters because untraceable, undetectable “DIY” firearms are increasingly easy to produce, and they make it harder for law enforcement to keep communities safe.
We need to act now. Please, send a quick message to the House Civil Rights & Judiciary Committee urging them to support HB 2320 and move it forward.
Thank you for showing up when it counts,
