I wanted to follow up as the situation across Washington continues to worsen.
After record flooding in western Washington, communities barely had time to catch their breath before hurricane-force winds and more heavy rain pushed rivers back over their banks.
And now, a parade of Pacific storms, driven by powerful atmospheric rivers, is predicted for the West Coast through Christmas. These storms will spread the threat of heavy rain from already-flooded areas of western Washington and Oregon to California.
Families from Pierce County to the Skagit Valley and across Central Washington are still facing evacuations, closed roads, and uncertainty about when, or if, they can safely return home for the holidays.
This stretch of weather has been devastating, and the need is ongoing.
The American Red Cross remains on the ground, providing shelter, food, and emergency assistance, while the Washington State Combined Fund Drive continues to direct resources to impacted communities.
If you’re able, please consider giving today:
- Donate to the Red Cross flood response
- Support affected Washingtonians through the Combined Fund Drive
Every contribution helps a family find safety, warmth, and stability during an incredibly difficult moment.
Washington takes care of its own, and our neighbors are still counting on us.
With gratitude and solidarity,
— Chair Shasti Conrad
