MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Happy Election Week Democrats!
Thank you to everyone who poured their hearts and energy into this year’s elections around the state and our nation. We’re still waiting on final results in some of these close races, but here’s where things stand now:
Democrats across the country had an amazing election night with wins for Virginia Governor, Virginia Attorney General, Virginia Lieutenant Governor, larger majorities in the Virginia General Assembly, New Jersey Governor, NYC Mayor, Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and broke the Mississippi Republican supermajority!
Here in Washington we saw tremendous results building on our success in the primary. As of press time, we know Sen. Deb Krishnadasan (despite nearly $2 million in outside spending against her), Sen. Victoria Hunt (who saw hundreds of thousands spent against her), Seattle City Attorney-elect Erika Evans (the first person of color elected City Attorney in Seattle history) have won their elections! This tremendous achievement took a lot of people power from all parts of the state. Thank you all! If you’d like to re-live Election Night, here’s Director of Communications Stephen Reed providing analysis on KIRO7’s live election night coverage.
Working for Washington
It is the final push before the election – we need everyone to get their ballots in and that starts with you! Once you’ve filled out your ballot, come to one of the many Get Out the Vote events WA Dems are hosting around the state. Find more info below!
Washington
Last week, dozens of committed volunteers came out to knock doors for State Senators Deb Krishnadasan and Victoria Hunt. They were joined by tremendous Democratic leaders like U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene, Lt. Governor Denny Heck, Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove, and former Governor Jay Inslee. Thank you to everyone who braved the elements to help make sure their neighbors had their voices heard.

U.S. Representative Rick Larsen is visiting local food banks to ensure their needs are being met during the cruel SNAP delayed payments from the Trump administration. While Congressional Republicans sit on their hands as food bank shelves run dry, leaders like Congressman Larsen are out in their communities helping out.

U.S. Senator Cantwell is fighting for Washington’s tribal communities who are suffering from impacts of the Republican federal government shutdown. SNAP and WIC help Native families put food on the table and these programs are under increasing attacks from Congressional Republicans and the White House. Thank you, Senator Cantwell for protecting every community in our great state!
Democratic incumbents ahead in most WA legislative races,
Washington State Standard
As of press time, every Democratic legislative incumbent save for Rep. Edwin Obras in LD 33 were leading their challengers. LD 33 is still a safe Democratic seat, so the outcome will not change the number of seats Democrats hold in the State Legislature. Our highest priority LD races were LD 5 with Sen. Victoria Hunt and LD 26 with Sen. Deb Krishnadasan. Both of these Senators held commanding leads on Election Night – surpassing their successful performances in the primary. In LD 26, a Democrat has not won a race by over 1% since 2012. We expect it to be higher when all the ballots are counted.

Washington Republicans won 32 of 36 targeted school board seats in 2023. That performance was turned on its head: as of press time, no Republican leads any of the school board races we are tracking in Pasco or Sunnyside.

WHAT I’M READING
This is how the Trump coalition unravels,

Democrats need to keep increasing the trends that helped deliver a repudiation of Trump’s failed policies in this week’s election. Here’s a great analysis about how the polls drastically undercounted Democratic votes when they were overcounted in 2024 and 2020. If we can build on the demographic trends we built this year, we will have a decent shot at retaking both chambers of Congress in next year’s midterms.
Thanks for all you do,
