WSDCC – October 24, 2025

Posted on October 24, 2025

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

It’s Friday, Washington Democrats! Time to get those ballots in!

Is your ballot haunting you? We have important local races around the state so exorcise those demons by exercising your right to vote! Once your ballot is cast, consider volunteering for Sen. Victoria Hunt and Sen. Deb Krishnadasan! Turn your ballot in before it turns on you!

Before filling out your ballot, be sure to check the endorsements made by your LD and County Democratic Parties. Vital races for school board, city council, county officials and other municipal and county elections are on your ballot – see who your neighbors endorsed!

And be sure to vote APPROVE on SJR 8201. This is likely the first thing on your ballot and would amend the state constitution to allow an independent, non-partisan board to protect the solvency of the long-term care program. Nearly every legislator, Democrat and Republican voted for this common-sense amendment. Learn more here.

There are also crucial elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and California. Find ways to volunteer for any of these great campaigns here.

We Love You, Mariners

The Mariners reminded us all that even though we may lose a game (or an election), it does not mean that all is lost. The Mariners galvanized our community, riding momentum that took them farther into the post-season than ever before. And while I would have loved for a Seattle vs. LA World Series, at least Trump has to deal with a World Series between LA and Canada.

I want to thank the Michigan Democrats for the delicious white fish we won on our wager over the American League Divisional Series. We had planned to make a similar wager with our colleagues in the Canadian chapter of Democrats Abroad, but because of Trump’s tariffs we settled on a beverage of the winner’s choice the next time we have a meeting. Go Mariners! Onto next season!

Washington Democrats Fight Back

Last week, U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene (WA-1) was interviewed on the Endless Urgency Substack Live by Mike Nellis. She gives an inside look at the Republican Federal Government Shutdown. While Republicans are on vacation, Democrats are working hard to protect healthcare for millions of Americans. Thank you, Congresswoman DelBene for your leadership! Click the image above or go here to see the full interview.

U.S. Representative Adam Smith was interviewed on NPR this week, demanding a Congressional hearing on the deadly strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean. More than 30 people are dead, but the Trump administration has not offered any proof to back up their claims that these boats were used in running drugs. We need accountability and transparency. Thank you, Congressman Smith for standing up for the rule of law!

The No Kings protests were wildly successful with more than 7 million Americans taking to the streets to make their voices heard that we will never bend the knee to a king or autocrat. Governor Ferguson led an exuberant rally in Everett where 4,000 people showed up. Washington state hosted more than 120 No Kings events in every corner of the state and approximately 200,000 people showed up. More photos and thoughts below.

Working for Washington

90,000 people took to the streets of Seattle to participate in No Kings last weekend. That is 20,000 more than the previous No Kings event in June. Marchers covered more than one mile and there were zero arrests of protesters! My deepest thanks go to everyone who took the time to stand up for the Constitution and the rights that all of us are entitled to. I attended No Kings in New Hampshire where I delivered the keynote address to their Democratic State Convention. What everyone at No Kings did was historic – this was the single largest mass mobilization in our nation’s history! Even the deepest red parts of our state participated – from Kettle Falls to Chewelah and Colville.

As Democrats around our state and the country protested, our elected leaders were also delivering results. This week, the White River Bridge on State Road 410 reopened two weeks earlier than expected thanks to the prompt action of Governor Ferguson and WSDOT.

Call to Action
It’s Knocktober which means we need all hands on deck to push our candidates over the finish line in next month’s election. Ballots are out! Let’s get them all turned back in and win this thing!

Washington

The DNC listed State Sen. Deb Krishnadasan’s race in LD26 as one of the most important of the year! Find an event to help our Sen. Krishnadasan here. Join us on Nov 1 for a special canvass for Deb –sign up here or click on the image above!

State Sen. Victoria Hunt is an expert on affordable housing, climate science, and delivering for her community. Find a canvass or phone bank to retain our Sen. Hunt here. Join us for a special canvass with Victoria on Nov 1 – sign up here or click the image above!

National

New Jersey is electing a new Governor. We need someone who will protect their Congressional Districts from a Republican gerrymander. Help make calls for Mikie Sherrill’s campaign by signing up to volunteer here.

Virginia is electing a new Governor who also needs to be someone that will prevent a Republican gerrymander. Make calls for this crucial race by signing up to volunteer here.

The biggest race on the West Coast will be Prop 50 to allow Democrats there to counter Trump’s Texas Takeover that stole seats from Democrats. This one is a team effort and there are lots of opportunities to help out. Find a phonebank event here.

If you haven’t already – please sign up as a WA Dems volunteer here!

WHAT I’M READING

There’s a reason Trump fears No Kings,

New York Times (opinion)

The No Kings protests truly got under Trump’s skin. Being responsible for the single largest mass-resistance protest in the country’s history will do that to you. Trump requires division to pursue his hateful agenda, but when we are united together, there’s nothing that can stop we, the people.

Thanks for all you do,

Chair Shasti Conrad
Washington State Democratic Party
