On Saturday, 7 million people across the country took to the streets for No Kings Day—a massive, peaceful rebuke of Donald Trump’s illegal power grabs and creeping authoritarianism.
Over 2,600 rallies were held nationwide. From coast to coast, people showed up to say: no to fascism, no to tyranny, and no to a man who thinks the Oval Office is his personal throne room.
I joined from New Hampshire, where I was honored to keynote their state Democratic convention. And let me tell you, the energy was electric. People are ready to defend our democracy like their futures depend on it, because they do.
And back home in Seattle, 90,000 people marched through downtown—a turnout bigger than June’s 70,000, a mile-long river of courage, chants, and creativity. From families waving flags to protesters in inflatable crowns mocking Trump, the message was clear: this nation is a democracy, and we’re keeping it that way.
But if we’re going to stop Trump and his MAGA court of cronies from dismantling our democracy piece by piece, we need to build a people-powered movement big enough to meet this moment. We can’t afford to leave our energy on the streets where we marched this weekend.
One thing’s for sure, we don’t bend the knee to would-be tyrants.
In solidarity,
— Chair Shasti Conrad
