Dear MoveOn member,
My name is Jennifer, and I’m also a MoveOn member from Arizona. Since Donald Trump’s reelection, I’ve been an active participnt in various protests, including the June No Kings rally. And now as a proud host of an October 18 No Kings rally in my community, I wanted to reach out with my story to encourage all MoveOn members who can to attend an event near them tomorrow.
As I watched the continued erosion of our freedoms, the decimation of federal agencies designed to help the most vulnerable, the abjectly abhorrent treatment of immigrants, and the enrichment of the Trump family and Cabinet members, I realized I not only wanted to do more, I needed to do more. So together with the friends I have made through our involvement with MoveOn, we decided to host the October 18 No Kings event in our community.
Tomorrow in Arizona, we will display that there are thousands upon thousands of people here who are joyfully and peacefully professing our love for our country and all the people in it. And there will be thousands of events and millions of people across the country doing the same.
We know there are disillusioned Republicans who may be concerned about losing their “community”’ if they voice their discontent with what the administration is doing. We know there are Independents who may not realize the size of the tent we’re pitching and who may not understand they have a place in it. And maybe there are others who are not sure of the impact of another protest, in the face of so much harm our communities are facing. But my hope is that this No Kings Day is going to offer everyone—regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof—a vision of what America was when we could all come together as one to celebrate what truly did make us great: “We the people.”
The people. Not a monarch. Not an elite ruling class. The people.
