Dear MoveOn member,
It’s time to take our power back from the bullying tactics of Donald Trump.
After months of Trump running roughshod over the Constitution and our democracy, more and more people are joining the movement to stop Trump’s tyranny each and every day. We’re building toward 3.5% of the population engaging in sustained resistance—which history shows us no authoritarian regime has ever been able to withstand.1
We saw movement toward that 3.5% when Trump tried to bully Jimmy Kimmel off the air and people spoke out in droves. We saw it when Trump began military incursions into Chicago and Portland and the backlash was so united and powerful that it has turned the tide of public opinion against his plans.2
People who have never gotten involved in politics before, who have never attended a protest before, and who have never spoken out publicly before have recognized the urgency of this time—and are joining the movement to stop Trump’s corruption, cruelty, and march to authoritarianism.
On October 18, we will exercise our collective power in numbers we’ve never seen before.
More than 2,400 events are planned across the nation to show Trump and his MAGA regime that the power of the U.S. lies in the people, not a wannabe king. But to begin to to turn back the tide of Trump’s authoritarianism, we need to make October 18 the largest nonviolent protest in U.S. history.
Trump’s escalation this week could not make more clear the urgency of this moment.
Taking advantage of the government shutdown, he has ordered National Guard troops into Portland and Chicago, cities that have adamantly rejected his invasion.3
More cities are in his crosshairs as Trump recently announced plans for incursions into Democratic-led cities across the country.4
He is also weaponizing the government shutdown against federal employees, suggesting they will not be paid for their work time during the shutdown and encouraging them to leave their jobs.5
But instead of scaring us off, we’re turning out in droves to stop him.
On the last No Kings Day, more than 5 million people attended more than 2,000 events. This time, more than 2,400 events are planned in all 50 states and even abroad.
MoveOn is helping make October 18 massive—and we need your support to finish strong.
We’re working with a broad coalition of organizations, and our specific role is critical: preparing thousands of volunteers who are hosting protests in their communities. We’re organizing training calls, providing materials and resources, and working one-on-one with hosts, while also playing a leadership role on the overall coordination and planning and providing significant financial support to the coalition.
With just nine days to go, every dollar helps us:
- Train more volunteer hosts so protests are safe, powerful, and effective
- Get materials, including know-your-rights information, into the hands of organizers nationwide
- Support coalition partners doing essential work
- Make sure protests in small towns and big cities alike have everything they need
This is our moment. With each mass day of protest, we’re building toward 3.5% of Americans being actively engaged in the fight for a country where each of us can thrive, not just Trump and his billionaire buddies.
The people are ready. Now we need the resources to make October 18 a turning point in the fight to end Trump’s tyranny. We are taking our power back—with you.
No thrones. No crowns. No kings.
We have nine days to go. Let’s do this!
Thanks for all you do.
–Emma, Katie, Melissa, Mia, and the rest of the team
P.S. We’re just nine days away. Let’s show that peaceful, organized people power can stop authoritarianism. Please chip in $75 or what you can now.
P.P.S. If you haven’t already, also RSVP to join a No Kings event in your community now!
