“I’ve definitely been feeling like I need to do more to combat all the terrible things happening in our community at the hands of ICE. This training was helpful and gave me hope about connecting with others organizing locally and nationally.”
–SURJ Member who took part in our SOI training
Yesterday, a deadly shooting occurred at an ICE facility in Dallas. We don’t know all the details yet, but we do know that the far right has already used this incident to blame the left and galvanize support for ICE. We must continue to remain steady and keep our eyes on the goal: showing up for our immigrant neighbors in the face of ongoing targeting.
MAGA’s escalating attacks on immigrants are brutal– tearing apart families, and forcing people to live in fear. As they have for decades, immigrant communities are rising up and showing us all what bravery in the face of repression looks like. As a part of the resistance, we’re proud that SURJ and our partners at Solidarity Organizing Initiative (SOI) have trained over 8,000 SURJ members in 44 states and 50 local groups to show up alongside them and fight back.
Political violence and repression is designed to keep us quiet, but if white people stay silent and divided, this will just become the new reality. Can you make a donation that will be split between SURJ and SOI today to make sure we have the resources to keep fighting for the world we know is possible?
Earlier this year, we launched a program alongside the immigrant-run organization Solidarity Organizing Initiative to stand up for our immigrant neighbors and run local campaigns to get institutions to challenge ICE’s lawless and cruel attacks on our communities. Through virtual training and a coaching program focused on growing our base and applying principles of nonviolent resistance, SURJ and SOI are building infrastructure for civic participation and community-building that will help us all to stand up for our neighbors, our values and our democracy.
For example, after participating in the SOI training program, the SURJ-Twin Cities chapter is now partnering with immigrants’ rights groups to launch a campaign to pressure corporations to support a pathway to citizenship for immigrant workers, and publicly defect from the Trump authoritarian agenda. This is what solidarity looks like!
Together with SOI, this program has the potential to organize thousands more white people to our side, keep our communities safe, and make solidarity a concrete action we take, not just something we say. We need to grow this work now more than ever—can you donate today to help SURJ keep showing up and keep this program running?
In solidarity,
SURJ
