Dear MoveOn member,
House Republicans are scrambling to pass their version of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” to fund his tax cuts for billionaires, and it’s worse than expected.
Not only does the bill include billions of dollars in historic cuts to Medicaid, kicking millions out of the health care program, it also cuts billions from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), meaning millions will go hungry.1
The good news is that the first version of the bill failed to be voted out of the Budget Committee on Friday. The bad news is that it failed because far-right MAGA loyalists refused to vote for it until they added even more cuts to Medicaid and other vital programs.2
Thousands of MoveOn members have stepped up to help us run billboards targeting six of the most vulnerable Republicans who represent swing districts, making sure their constituents know exactly how these cuts will affect them. With your help, we can expand these billboards into even more districts and keep them up until we defeat Trump’s tax cut bill. On top of that, MoveOn is also launching a big digital ad campaign to turn up the heat on Republicans even higher.
Will you start a $5 monthly donation to MoveOn and help us double down on our billboards and digital ads, ramp up the pressure on Republicans who represent moderate districts, and rally more people against funding cuts to support billionaires?
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
The funding bill’s cuts to Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and SNAP are so egregious that Human Rights Watch, the organization that monitors human rights abuses across the globe, is sounding the alarm about the harm the bill will cause.3,4
The bill is being called “the largest transfer of wealth from poor to rich in a single bill in U.S. history.”5
And these cuts are hugely unpopular—the vast majority of Americans oppose these massive and cruel cuts.6
Don’t forget, Republicans are working with the slimmest majority in the House in modern history. They simply cannot pass this bill without basically every Republican vote on board.
That’s why Speaker Johnson is using every trick in the book—lying to the public about what this bill does, adding provisions in the dead of night, accusing Democrats of misleading voters—to pass this bill.
Our billboards and digital ads lay out how many people in each of the vulnerable Republican districts will be harmed by this bill, whether by losing Medicaid, going hungry, or seeing cuts to their Social Security benefits.
We’re going to place these billboards in the districts of Representatives Gabe Evans (CO-08), Don Bacon (NE-02), Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), Monica De La Cruz (TX-15), Jen Kiggans (VA-02), and Speaker of the House himself, Mike Johnson (LA-04). We’re supplementing these billboards with hard-hitting digital ads so their constituents see our message everywhere they turn, whether it’s driving on the road or scrolling on their devices.
And the more MoveOn members show their support today, the more billboards congressional staffers and their constituents will see. We know this pressure is working, and the cracks in the MAGA wall are starting to show. We can’t afford to lose our federal funding to billionaires, so we need to go all-in right now.
The funding fight is stretching out, and we need to keep these billboards and ads up and running for as long as possible. Please start a $5 monthly donation to MoveOn today.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.
Thanks for all you do.
