Summer 2025 is heating up—and so is the fight for our democracy and our communities. As Trump and the far right double down on attacks—from slashing Medicaid to targeting our immigrant neighbors—the stakes are rising. But so is the resistance.
Across the country, people are speaking out, taking to the streets, and standing up.
We believe this summer will be full of moments when many will be moved to act. Our job is to be ready to welcome them in.
That’s the heart of SURJ’s Summer to Grow: Turn Up the Heat—preparing for those moments and making sure no one’s first action is their last.
Absorption Training – 3 Opportunities to Join
Have you ever gone to a protest or an action because you were pissed off, scared or wanting a way to get things off your chest? It can feel empowering and connecting to show up and take action, especially for the first time. But what comes after that? Too many people take action one time but then don’t find a place to keep channeling their energy.
Let’s break that trend by taking part in a Summer to Grow, Turn up the Heat – Absorbing our People Training In 2025, more people are protesting than in 2017! Join us to learn best practices on how to meet people in the streets, ask them to join you, and move into sustained action together.
This training will cover:
- SURJ’s long-term strategy and goals, and why we organize white people
- What absorption is, why it matters, and how to do it well
- SURJ’s plan for supporting members to host mass meetings and practice absorption throughout the summer— and YOUR next steps for getting involved!
Choose ONE session that works for you (all 3 will be the same)!
- Thu, June 12 | 7:30–9:30pm ET/4:30-6:40pm PT
- Wed, June 18 | 7:30–9:30pm ET/4:30-6:40pm PT
- Thu, June 26 | 7:30–9:30pm ET/4:30-6:40pm PT
Together, we can grow our collective power — let’s turn up the heat this summer!
In solidarity,
Kayla & the SURJ National Team
P.S. Join us Wednesday, June 11 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET for a special webinar, A National Call to Action: White People Against ICE, with organizers from LA and beyond. Hear how white people can take action right now and in solidarity with immigrants—and how we can organize our communities away from racist division and toward multiracial solidarity. Stay on after for an Action Hour where we’ll take concrete action together!
