Last week, Texas Republicans passed House Bill 7, a law allowing private citizens to sue out-of-state abortion pill providers. Abortion is already banned in Texas, but this new law makes it even harder to access abortion medications via telemedicine.
Abortion pills are the safest and most common form of abortion, yet HB 7 creates new hurdles for doctors and pharmacists, particularly targeting telehealth services. People in rural and underserved areas will face even greater barriers to care.
HB 7 is part of the GOP’s strategy to roll back reproductive rights, silence women, and suppress marginalized communities. It’s another step toward a country where the government dictates healthcare access instead of patients and doctors.
