WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – July 31, 2025

Posted on July 31, 2025

[Español Abajo]

We spent Pride season exactly where we needed to be: in community with queer and transgender immigrants and allies across Washington. Below are some of the highlights from the WAISN team who showed up and showed out this Pride:

Attending Seattle Trans Pride this year was a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our communities. We stood side by side with transgender people advocating for immigrant justice, building solidarity and raising our collective voices. Over 300 people visited our booth and we shared hundreds of Know Your Rights flyers, a testament to the unwavering commitment to creating a world where every person, regardless of gender identity or immigration status, can thrive in dignity and safety. Together, we are unstoppable!

We showed up at the first-ever Latino Pride in Pasco, a beautiful and historic celebration of nuestra comunidad. Between handing out bilingual resources for the community, we shared laughs, danced to cumbias from nearby booths, and felt the joy of being in a space where trans and queer Latino immigrants were celebrated out loud!

Seattle Latinx Pride Festival was an unforgettable experience filled with joy, connection, and community power. We had the opportunity to connect people to our Deportation Defense Hotline and invite them to join WAISN’s Know Your Rights, Accompaniment, and Rapid Response trainings. The energy was electric, with incredible performances by local queer and trans artists, from powerful live singers to dazzling drag performers.

At Seattle Pride, WAISN brought joy and power to the streets. One of our highlights was being on the float truck—dancing to the DJ, seeing our executive director, Brenda, lead chants of immigrant and trans power, and hearing the crowd shout them back with so much energy. It was powerful to march at the front of the parade in solidarity with partner and member organizations like ACLU-WA and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

These moments matter right now more than ever. We know that Pride began as resistance to state violence, and that resistance continues to this day. When we are up against institutions of power who are attempting to harm our communities through anti-trans and anti-immigrant laws, we are reminded that our survival is political and our joy is resistance.

That’s why we continue to organize: not for accommodation in an anti-LGBTQ world, but to build a better world that encourages trans and queer immigrants to flourish and thrive. Our future depends on each and every one of us continuing to show up for one another—during Pride, and every day after.

Head to our social media to relive some of these moments of Pride across Washington and share them to uplift the voices, joy, and power of trans and queer immigrants. Thank you to everyone who showed up, who marched with us, and for refusing to let trans and queer immigrants be forgotten

Thank you to everyone who showed up, who marched with us, and for refusing to let trans and queer immigrants be forgotten.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, support for public health policies has gradually declined. At the federal level certain policies and practices regarding vaccines have been thrown into question.

Vaccine proponents note the long-time and widespread benefits of the traditional MMR vaccine; vaccine skeptics generally insist it causes autism. Some say the approval process (Operation Warp Speed for Covid-19) was either rushed or rigged; others say the process was instrumental in reducing suffering and saved the lives of millions of people.
