Primaries are dismissed as distractions.
Young organizers are told to wait their turn.
And calls for accountability are framed as threats to unity.
At the same time, concern about losing young voters is at an all-time high. But when it comes to addressing the issues that matter most to young Americans — climate, debt, Gaza, housing, safety, and justice — the response is often silence or resistance.
It is not that young people are checked out. It is that they are paying attention.
If Democrats want to win back young voters, they have to actually listen to us.
Because right now, it seems like they want young sycophants, not young voters they have to answer to.
They want young people who are ready to fall in line with the status quo, rather than push for a bolder vision and a better future for all of us.
There is nothing radical about wanting representation that reflects real life. There is nothing divisive about challenging systems that shut people out. The status quo is not just uninspiring. It is not working.
Leaders We Deserve exists to shift what is possible. This is not just about electing young candidates. It is about building campaigns that are rooted in values, community, and urgency.
Right now, our team is working to support candidates who are stepping up despite enormous barriers. Many are running in tough districts or against entrenched incumbents. They are organizing because their communities need real leadership — and because they are tired of being told to wait.
