Since taking office, President Trump has abused every power, exploited every loophole to silence dissent, and eroded our very democracy.
The ACLU is not backing down. With the support of people like you, we’ve taken over 140 legal actions to combat the Trump administration’s attacks on and other civil liberties:
- When students and faculty were detained for their pro-Palestine activism, we defended them – because the First Amendment protects everyone in this country. Our lawyers helped secure the release of Mahmoud Khalil, Dr. Badar Khan Suri, Rümeysa Öztürk, and Mohsen Mahdawi.
- When President Trump went after NPR and PBS in retaliation for airing news coverage he didn’t like, we filed amicus briefs in support of lawsuits blocking this unconstitutional order from going into effect. Retaliating against journalists and independent news channels for doing their jobs is a clear violation of the freedom of the press.
- When the Trump administration attempted to dictate what universities like Harvard can teach in their classrooms, we urged the court to throw out this attack on free speech. By forcing Harvard to choose between ideological views and federal funding, the administration clearly violated the First Amendment.
There’s no doubt about it: This is a uniquely challenging moment. But thankfully, it is also exactly what the ACLU was built for.
With over a century of experience defending our rights, civil liberties, and Constitution from countless threats, we are uniquely qualified to combat the Trump administration’s executive overreach and abuses of power – and we need your support to keep up the fight.
Together in solidarity,
