Happy Disability Pride Month!
This July, we celebrate the power, resilience, and leadership of our disability community, not just as advocates, organizers, and movement-builders, but as family, neighbors, and loved ones who make our communities whole.
At the Washington State Democrats, we believe that the diversity of our society should be honored, not just in words—but in our policies, our leadership, and our actions. That means fighting for accessibility in every corner of our state. It means listening to and amplifying the voices of disabled people. And it means fiercely opposing every attack on disability rights and access to care.
Just last week, House Republicans voted to slash nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid over the next decade, a move that will cause devastating harm to the one in three disabled people in this country who rely on it. This is a moral disgrace. We cannot and will not be silent while Republicans gut life-saving care and strip away basic human rights.
Disability justice is racial justice, economic justice, and health care justice. It is central to our values and our vision for a more inclusive and equitable Washington.
We recommit ourselves this month and every month to breaking down barriers—and to building a Washington where everyone can thrive. Join us.
With pride and solidarity,
— Chair Shasti Conrad
