Dear MoveOn member,
When voters—including Republicans—hear about what’s in Donald Trump’s huge, horrible bill currently making its way through Congress, they recoil.
Only 17% of people actually want to decrease Medicaid funding. This bill cuts it by hundreds of billions of dollars.1
And an even smaller percentage than that want to spend more money on ICE and detention centers, especially while food assistance for people in need is being cut.2
And 75% of Americans are against creating even more Trump tax breaks for the wealthy.3
So how is Trump’s bill that essentially nobody wants—except millionaires, billionaires, and corporations—speeding through Congress?
Because the American people don’t know what’s actually in it. A recent poll found that a stunning two-thirds of Americans have heard little to nothing about this sweeping bill.4
And the corporate media certainly isn’t covering what’s in the bill. In the past two weeks, CNN has mentioned cuts to Medicaid only a dozen times a day, across all of its programming—while Fox mentioned it an average of only four times in the span of 24 hours.5
So it’s up to us.
Your donation will help us flood Congress with calls, hold public events calling out senators (the bill is currently in the Senate), run social media ads and billboards, and do other public outreach to inform the public about the impacts of the budget bill which are being ignored by the mainstream media.
Trump and MAGA Republicans are banking on the public’s not understanding what’s really happening. They’ve been moving this bill forward quickly and quietly, during a historically busy and overwhelming news cycle—during the protests against Trump’s LA immigration raids, the historically huge “No Kings” rallies, Trump’s disgusting and degrading birthday parade, and his escalation of war with Iran.
They believe that the less people know about the bill and how detrimental it will be to our lives, the less we’ll fight back and the more likely that it will pass.
Virtually no one supports gutting essential programs like Medicaid, food stamps, and education, making hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicaid and health care, and ripping away coverage from up to 16 million people.
A majority of the American public want Medicaid to be kept at its current levels or increased.6 And a broad majority of voters oppose cutting funding for food assistance to low-income families.7
And 61% oppose pumping billions more into immigration detention centers.8
Once people know the truth that this bill puts corporations and the ultra wealthy over children, families, and seniors, they strongly oppose it. But we have only 13 days left to educate the public and make sure that we make our voices heard.
Please rush an emergency donation right now.
MoveOn is putting this bill in the spotlight to stop it in its tracks. We’re organizing emergency rallies and media events to call out lawmakers for pushing these cruel cuts. We’re running digital ads, billboards, and grassroots events to educate the public about what this bill would do to their communities. We have less than two weeks until the Senate votes.
But we urgently need resources to scale up this time-sensitive effort.
The only way this bill survives is if people remain in the dark, so let’s shine a light on it.
Let’s make sure that every voter in America knows what Trump and his MAGA allies are doing: trying to steal our health care and resources to lavish more giveaways on billionaires.
Thanks for all you do.
