This summer, it’s clear our opponents are amping up the billionaire, authoritarian agenda—and the racist attacks and repression that come with it.
And immigrant communities are leading a powerful resistance—with millions of us getting into action alongside them and refusing to normalize this brutality. LA is leading the biggest anti-ICE resistance movement since ICE’s inception. A historic number of people were in the streets this past weekend.
Across the country, white people are waking up, getting activated, and are ready to do something. As immigrant communities are facing a true crisis, it’s our role to amp up our action and bring other white folks with us.
Today, we’re inviting you to join us in our campaign: “Summer to Grow, Turn Up the Heat” where we’ll take action to be in solidarity with immigrant communities and to grow our movements.
Right now, you can join us in these ways
- Get trained to show up for immigrant communities in our two-part series, starting TONIGHT. In partnership with Solidarity Organizing Initiative, a project led and supported by a number of national immigration and civil rights groups, we’ll go deeper on how we got to this current moment, get trained in tactics of noncooperation, and learn how to provide direct support to immigrant communities near you. Can’t make it? Register and we’ll send you a recording.
- Learn how to use big, flash-point moments to bring people into sustained action TOMORROW Wed, 6/18 at 7:30 ET. In moments like the one we’re in, millions of people hit the streets, but then when the energy is over, they don’t know what to do next. In these trainings, you’ll learn how to move people from the streets into a long term plan to win!
- Put your values into action at an Action Hour. We’re continuing our biweekly hour-long calls where we take action in community to join in breaking movement campaigns—like demanding charges be dropped against anti-ICE protestors or pushing our elected officials to not pass the BBB, a bill that will invest more money in ICE than ever before, cut taxes on the rich, and push people off Medicaid.
- Save the date for mass calls in July and August. We’ll be publicizing the topics closer to the events, but we’ll be bringing together movement leaders and SURJ organizers to get oriented to the news of the moment and get into action together.
Thousands of SURJ members are already in motion with movements to resist authoritarianism and use this moment as an opportunity to set a truly liberatory agenda—to fight for the multiracial democracy we have never had in this country. And this summer, our assignment as white people who care about justice is to move deeper into action and bring millions more with us.
Together, we’re going to turn up the heat and grow our movements and take a stand alongside immigrants. Can you join us?
In solidarity,
SURJ
