WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – June 4, 2025

Posted on June 4, 2025

[Español Abajo]

This is Israel Gonzalez, WAISN’s Rapid Response Organizer, and I want to thank you for attending our last General Meeting! Our monthly General Meeting allows community members from across Washington to share their experiences, discuss strategies for empowering their own local communities, and give us an opportunity to involve directly affected people in our strategic decision-making processes.

Just in case you missed it or if you had any questions, here is a brief summary of the most important points we discussed and ways you can get involved:

Community Resources

Support our Washingtonian community by sharing WAISN resources:

Know Your Rights with ICE Flyer – WAISN available in 11 languages

WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline Flyer

WAISN Bystander & Observer Guidelines

Deportation Defense Hotline

Save, share and use the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline number—1-844-724-3737.

Call the Hotline 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday to learn more about the rights that protect all Washingtonians, get support for detained persons, report immigration activity, request accompaniment to vulnerable locations, and to get connected with over 1400 immigration and community resources. Our Hotline organizers speak English and Spanish, and we offer interpretation in nearly 300 languages.

Our hours are 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. If you cannot get through to an operator (or outside these hours), to report a detention or immigration activity, or to request accompaniment, send a text message to the Hotline number. We will return the call as soon as possible. Our Hotline organizers speak English and Spanish, and we offer interpretation in nearly 300 languages.

Since January 20, 2025, we have received 74 reports of detentions and 83 reports of immigration activity. But we know that this is not the whole picture, and there is more going on in Washington state. How can you help?

  • If you see immigration activity, a detention, or violations of civil and constitutional rights: call the Hotline.
  • If possible, the person seeing the activity should call the Hotline. First-hand reports give us a clearer picture of what is happening. Details are crucial!
  • If you hear or read about activity second-hand, please ask the person who saw
the activity to call the Hotline.

Rapid Response

In April there were a total of 51 unconfirmed reports of CBP/ICE activity in Washington.

  1. Border Patrol (CBP) at a hospital, escorting a detained pregnant woman to a medical appointment
  2. Police and ICE arrived at the workplace with a warrant and took 37 people onto buses

Know Your Rights with ICE Training – June 12th
Do you know what to do if ICE comes to your home or workplace? Do you know what a judicial warrant looks like? Come and learn that and more in this training.

Policy and Advocacy

Congress is pushing a federal budget package that would:

  • Increase ICE’s budget for immigrant detention thirteen times its current level and allocate $120 billion for detention, deportation, border enforcement, and increased surveillance of our communities.
  • Cut billions of dollars from food assistance programs and Medicaid, leading to millions of people losing access to healthcare.

This dangerous bill has passed out of the House and the Senate is expected to vote on it by the 4th of July.

CALL YOUR SENATORS and demand they oppose any budget that steals health care from working families and food from children to supercharge deportations and cut taxes for billionaires.

Deportation Defense

Deportation Defense Strategies – Empowering our communities through preparedness, knowledge, and support! Here’s what to do before, during, and after ICE activity:

Get Prepared

  1. Create a family preparedness plan, seek support in your community to create your plan. We know that making a family preparedness plan can be emotionally difficult and even overwhelming. It brings up real fears and hard conversations. You don’t have to do it alone. Reach out to trusted family, friends, or community members for support. Having someone by your side can make a big difference — emotionally and practically.
  2. Know Your Rights, regardless of who is president and what our immigration  status is we ALL have constitutional rights.
  3. Educate your Community: Share what you’ve learned with neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family. Build collective knowledge and preparedness!
  4. Organize: Form local networks and Rapid Response Teams in your community. Build relationships before a crisis happens.

When Immigration Activity is Happening
If you witness ICE activity in your community:

  • Call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline: 1.844.724.3737
  • Provide accurate information (location, time, who, what)
  • Activate local Rapid Response Teams to provide community support

After ICE Activity
Call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline. We can provide support with:

  • Locating your loved one
  • Connecting family to local resources such as Accompaniment to immigration appointments or any other appointments community feels vulnerable attending to alone.
  • Connecting to Legal Support: Assist in connecting to local legal aid organizations.
  • Completing an application for the Fair Fight Bond Fund once your loved one is granted a bond.

Community Resources and Membership

If you are part of an organization fighting for immigrant justice, we want to invite you to join WAISN as an official organizational member! WAISN Organizational Membership is a statewide and intersectional paid membership model where your organizational superpowers and capacity can both support immigrant justice and receive support from the entire WAISN network. Join us today!

We’d love to highlight the important work our members are doing! If you’re interested in sharing updates, resources, or initiatives with our community, we invite you to present at an upcoming General Meeting. Please contact Adriana at adriana@waisn.org to coordinate a date and time. We look forward to hearing from you!

Mark your calendar – MLK Labor and the National TPS Alliance are hosting an assembly to discuss the future of TPS, provide updates on litigation, and discuss next steps to save Temporary Protected Status. Join us in this important conversation on June 5th at the Seattle Labor Temple at either 10 AM or 6 PM.

An important announcement: This month, we will not have a general meeting as WAISN will be closed in observation of Juneteenth.

We invite you to join us in celebrating this significant date in U.S. history: Juneteenth commemorates the end of centuries of American slavery in 1865. It is an opportunity to reflect on our ongoing collective struggle for liberation, equity, and justice.

In solidarity,

Israel Gonzalez

P.S. If you witness immigration activity, raids and detentions in Washington, please call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline at 1-844-724-3737. We have operators available Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm to take your call. Our operators speak Spanish and English, and we have interpretation available in nearly 300 languages.

  • redes sociales: reforzar nuestra presencia

Únase a nosotros hoy mismo!

Well said John Duresky for Congress! ... See MoreSee Less

Why did a federal immigration enforcement operation end with a woman dead, and why are communities still being given vague answers instead of real accountability? YESTERDAY: ICE officers were involved in an immigration enforcement operation in south Minneapolis that ended with a civilian woman fatally shot during a roadside encounter. Federal officials described the shooting as self-defense, while local leaders, witnesses, and family members disputed that account and called for an independent investigation. THIS MORNING: A community is grieving and demanding answers. Eyewitness accounts and available video raise serious questions about whether deadly force was necessary. Federal authorities have offered limited detail and no independent review. This is not a partisan question. It is a question of accountability. Public safety matters. Law enforcement matters. But when the federal government uses deadly force, it must explain, clearly, publicly, and credibly, why. In WA-04, people live in small towns. They know their neighbors. They expect government power to be exercised carefully, and that when something goes wrong, leaders do not close ranks. They tell the truth. We should never be asked to choose between public safety and civil liberties. A serious government protects both. Here is what I will do differently as your Congressman: Demand full, public investigations when federal enforcement actions result in preventable loss of life, unlawful arrests, or violence Push for independent oversight of federal agencies operating in our communities Insist that use-of-force standards are clear, constitutional, and enforced — not justified after the fact with press releases and silence Accountability is not anti-law-enforcement. ICE officers were involved in an immigration enforcement operation in south Minneapolis that ended with a civilian woman being fatally shot during a roadside encounter. Federal officials described the shooting as self-defense, while local leaders, witnesses, and family members disputed that account and called for an independent investigation. https://johnduresky4congress.com/
