Happy Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
As the first woman of color and youngest person to serve as Chair of the Washington State Democrats—and the first South Asian woman to lead a state party in the entire country—this month carries deep personal meaning for me.
AANHPI Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the powerful legacy, vibrant cultures, and undeniable leadership of our AANHPI communities—not only here in Washington, but across the nation.
We are artists and organizers, caregivers and climate warriors, legislators and laborers. We are the heartbeat of our neighborhoods and a vital force in the future of our democracy.
Here in Washington, we are proud to be home to one of the most diverse and dynamic AANHPI populations in the country. And we are just as proud of the growing political power our communities are building together. From the halls of the State Capitol to the streets of our cities and towns, AANHPI Democrats are shaping the future of our state.
So let’s celebrate!
Please join us on Saturday, May 10, at Seattle Harbor Restaurant (formerly China Harbor) for a joyful evening honoring the power, leadership, and excellence of our AANHPI Democratic family. We’ll be joined by amazing leaders, including Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, and many more.
This month—and every month—we celebrate the richness of our histories, the strength of our communities, and the bright future we’re building together. Stay tuned throughout May as we uplift the stories and voices of AANHPI Democratic leaders across Washington.
In solidarity and celebration,
Shasti Conrad
Chair, Washington State Democrats

In 2024, Washington Democrats led the nation with sweeping electoral victories. Now, we’re fighting to elect a supermajority in Olympia, protect our swing seats in the House, and stand up to MAGA extremism across the country.
WA Dems empowers grassroots organizing and elects Democrats up and down the ballot. Your support fuels our fight to stop Trump and defend our democracy.
