WA Immigrant Solidarity Network – May 29, 2025

Posted on May 29, 2025

[Español Abajo]

This is Israel Gonzalez, WAISN’s Rapid Response Organizer, and I want to thank you for attending our last General Meeting! Our monthly General Meeting allows community members from across Washington to share their experiences, discuss strategies for empowering their own local communities, and give us an opportunity to involve directly affected people in our strategic decision-making processes.

Just in case you missed it or if you had any questions, here is a brief summary of the most important points we discussed and ways you can get involved:

We are hiring!

Digital organizer – WAISN is looking for a Digital Organizer responsible for implementing a social media strategy to educate, provide resources, and mobilize WAISN’s audiences through our social media platforms. This position reports directly to the Executive Directors and works closely with all WAISN departments.

Advocacy Organizer –  WAISN is looking for a motivated and passionate individual to fill the role of Advocacy Organizer that will support our policy work by deepening organizational partnerships and leading WAISN’s advocacy efforts to advance campaigns on our secondary and tertiary policy platform.

Language Justice Organizer – WAISN is looking for a Language Justice Organizer responsible for the coordination and implementation of internal and external strategies of multilingual interpretation, translation, and communication in alignment with WAISN’s vision, mission, organizing principles from the frame of language, power and its many intersections.

Read more about open positions on our website: https://waisn.org/careers

Deportation Defense Hotline

Save, share and use the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline number—1-844-724-3737. Call the Hotline to learn more about the rights that protect all Washingtonians, get support for detained persons, report immigration activity, request accompaniment to vulnerable locations, and to get connected with over 1400 immigration and community resources.

Our hours are 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. If you cannot get through to an operator (or outside these hours), to report a detention or immigration activity, or to request accompaniment, send a text message to the Hotline number. We will return the call as soon as possible. Our Hotline organizers speak English and Spanish, and we offer interpretation in nearly 300 languages.

Since January 20, 2025, we have received 74 reports of detentions and 83 reports of immigration activity. But we know that this is not the whole picture, and there is more going on in Washington state. How can you help?

  • If you see immigration activity, a detention, or violations of civil and constitutional rights: call the Hotline.
  • If possible, the person seeing the activity should call the Hotline. First-hand reports give us a clearer picture of what is happening. Details are crucial!
  • If you hear or read about activity second-hand, please ask the person who saw
the activity to call the Hotline.

Organizing Team

Everyone, including media representatives, has the First Amendment right to record officers in public places as long as their actions do not interfere with the officer’s duties or their safety or the safety of others. Officers should assume that they are being recorded at all times when on duty in a public space.

We continue to create spaces to inform people about the different resources we have available for immigrant and refugee communities — don’t miss the next WAISN trainings!

Know Your Rights – May 8th

Do you know what to do if ICE comes to your home or workplace? Do you know what a judicial warrant looks like? Come and learn that and more in this training.

Rapid Response Training – May 29th

Join our next Rapid Response training on May 29 to learn more about existing rapid response networks that support communities, build pressure to stop detention and deportation, and ultimately keep families together.

Policy and Advocacy

In these times, it is important to keep each other informed about the realities that our communities are facing.

Standing for Democracy Conference to Resist Deportations | Conferencia de Defensa de la Democracia para Resistir las Deportaciones

Join us on Saturday, May 3rd at the Conference to Resist Deportations organized by Standing for Democracy. Hear from labor organizers, legal experts, and immigrant justice organizations, including WAISN’s Executive Director Brenda Rodriguez Lopez. Can’t make it to Seattle in person? You can join us virtually as well! Register here!

Deportation Defense

What is Accompaniment? Accompaniment is a  solidarity-based practice where trained volunteers accompany community members to:

  • ICE Check-ins
  • Immigration Court Hearings
  • USCIS Appointments
  • State Court Hearings
  • ISAP- Ankle Bracelet Monitor Check-ins

The goal of accompaniment  is to provide companionship, moral support, and bare witness. This is a form of allyship that anyone can participate in, but one where bilingual folks are especially helpful! To request accompaniment, call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline 1-844-724-3737. If you can’t reach us, send a text message stating that you need accompaniment and an operator will contact you.

We are excited to share that over 100 new volunteers have completed training and will be joining the Accompaniment Volunteer Program! This means:

  • More trained volunteers ready to support impacted community members.
  • Increased capacity to provide solidarity during ICE check-ins, immigration court, and other critical moments.
  • A stronger network of allies committed to standing with our community.

Community Resources and Membership

If you are part of an organization fighting for immigrant justice, we want to invite you to join WAISN as an official organizational member! WAISN Organizational Membership is a statewide and intersectional paid membership model where your organizational superpowers and capacity can both support immigrant justice and receive support from the entire WAISN network. Join Us Today!

Mark your calendar – Join the WAISN and the BIPOC ED Coalition for an evening of connection and community on May 9 at 5:00 pm in Tri-Cities (location details will be provided upon confirmation of your participation). Registration here.

Our general meeting is the third Thursday of every month, please join us on May 15  for the next one!

In solidarity,

Israel Gonzalez

P.S. If you witness immigration activity, raids and detentions in Washington, please call the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline at 1-844-724-3737. We have operators available Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm to take your call. Our operators speak Spanish and English, and we have interpretation available in nearly 300 languages.

[English Above]

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, support for public health policies has gradually declined. At the federal level certain policies and practices regarding vaccines have been thrown into question.

Vaccine proponents note the long-time and widespread benefits of the traditional MMR vaccine; vaccine skeptics generally insist it causes autism. Some say the approval process (Operation Warp Speed for Covid-19) was either rushed or rigged; others say the process was instrumental in reducing suffering and saved the lives of millions of people.

    Whistle Workshop & Learning Event

    December 12, 2025  10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Richland Public Library, Conf Room B, 955 Northgate Dr, Richland, WA

📣Our Voices United is sharing whistle safety packs as a simple, but powerful, grassroots tool that helps communities stay alert and protect each other. Indivisible Tri-Cities is joining in to help promote this campaign and support local outreach.

🧊These whistles create instant signals when ICE activity is nearby, helping neighbors gather quickly, record what's happening, and stand with anyone who may be approached. Join us this Friday to learn more!

🎶Different whistle patterns can signal urgent moments, like ICE being in the area or someone being detained. This gives those nearby a way to respond that's faster than social media and doesn't rely on being on your phone all the time.

🛡️Though it's a small tool, it helps combat quiet threats by creating visible community action, solidarity, and support. When we come together in efforts like this, our collective strength grows.

Organizing for a brighter future for Washington families in 2026 starts now! It’s time to huddle up and make a 2026 game plan for protecting child care during the Washington state budget crisis.

Join SEIU 925, Children's Campaign Fund Action, and MomsRising for a virtual Family Meeting: Child Care & the State Budget Emergency.

Our state is in a budget crisis, and we know most of our families are too. We’re calling a family meeting to learn about what’s at stake and to co-create the budget solutions that will lift all families.

Together, we'll get up to speed about the state of the 2026 state budget and how budget choices will impact moms, families, caregivers, and workers in our state. We'll hear from leaders from across Washington state, including Senator Claire Wilson, Senator Emily Alvarado, Representative Mary Fosse, and leaders from SEIU 925 and MomsRising.

We hope you can join us in getting organized and informed so we can hit the ground running in early 2026! Make sure to RSVP so you receive the Zoom link once it's available.
