Move On – September 19, 2024

Posted on September 19, 2024

Dear MoveOn member,

MoveOn’s “Scoop the Vote” tour, a joyful but highly strategic ice cream truck tour through swing states to increase voter turnout, got started on Monday—and it is off to a GREAT start!

This tour was made possible entirely because of support from MoveOn members like you, and we want to share with you how you are making a difference.
The results we are seeing so far are incredible, but we’ve got a big problem. Right now, we have the budget to keep the ice cream truck running only through October 16, but we believe it is critically important to keep it going all the way through Election Day.
Will you start a $5 monthly donation to keep the tour going through key swing states and districts? As a bonus, when you donate, you’ll be entered to win a signed carton of Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee, a special, limited-edition ice cream flavor crafted by Ben and Jerry themselves!

Yes, I’ll chip in monthly.

No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

Our tour began in Pennsylvania, the state that most analysts believe will be the “tipping point” in determining the winner of the election.

We brought our brand-new ice cream truck, stocked with special ice cream flavors like Unburdened by What Has Vanilla Bean, and offered free scoops of ice cream for attendees while volunteers helped them check their voter registration status and sign up to increase their impact by becoming what we call “Vote Triplers.”
Ben and Jerry themselves were even on hand to serve some ice cream!
Vote tripling is a tactic MoveOn first used during the 2020 election, and data has shown it’s as much as five times more effective than traditional voter outreach like canvassing and phone-banking.
The premise is simple: A Vote Tripler commits to helping three friends or family members make a plan to vote and ensures they actually make it to the ballot box. It is so effective because it taps into established relationships and social pressure—you are far more likely to take action if a trusted friend or family member asks, instead of a stranger over the phone.

In less than a week, we’ve already had hundreds of people sign up—and remember, if 100 people become Vote Triplers, that translates to 400 votes!
We all know just how close this election will be, which is why nontraditional campaigns like Scoop the Vote are so important. Can you help keep the tour going by starting a $5 monthly donation? Remember, when you donate, you’ll be entered to win a free pint of Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee ice cream, signed by Ben and Jerry themselves!
Yes, I’ll chip in monthly.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

We’ve been on the road for only four days, but already the truck has been a hit with the press as well! We’ve already been covered by more than 200 outlets in more than 35 cities across the country, including People magazine, USA Today, CNN, and Fox News (yes, that Fox News), and Seth Meyers even gave us a shoutout on his late-night show!

And we’re just getting started!

We’ll be having a special event in New York City tomorrow, before taking the truck to several swing districts in New York that could determine who controls the House, and then we’ll head back to Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
We currently have the budget for 20 stops total, but with your help we can hit more swing states and districts, help turn out even more voters, and keep the truck moving all the way through November 5.
Can you help us scoop the vote by starting a $5 monthly donation to MoveOn? When you donate, we’ll enter you to win a free, signed pint of Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee, created by Ben and Jerry!
Yes, I’ll chip in monthly.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

–David, Britt, Mia, Justin, and the rest of the team

Want to support MoveOn? The MAGA right is declaring war, and Project 2025 is their battle plan. Project 2025 threatens our rights, attacks communities of color, hurts middle- and working-class families, and undermines our democracy. But we will not back down or let Trump steamroll our nation.

Yes, I’ll chip in $5 a month.

No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

No purchase, payment, or contribution necessary to enter to win. Void where prohibited. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2024. You may enter by making a donation here. Alternatively, you may enter without making a donation. Ten winners will receive the following prize package: 1 pint of Ben and Jerry’s Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee ice cream (approximate retail value: $6.00). Odds of winning depend on number of eligible entries received. Promotion open to all U.S. citizens, or lawful permanent U.S. residents who are legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia and 18 or older (or of majority under applicable law). Promotion subject to Official Rules and additional restrictions on eligibility. Sponsor: MoveOn.org Political Action, 9450 SW Gemini Drive, #57224, Beaverton, OR 97008-7105. Former President Barack Obama recently posted on LinkedIn Abraham Lincoln's understanding of hard work and pulling up the bootstraps for independent success. Lincoln also understood we are not here alone. And we're not meant to solve the world's problems alone. A friend of mine from D.C. and smarter-than-most has taken note of not only these values, but the values of rural America - and what we're doing right here in Benton County. The goal is to accomplish the most in every possible way for the benefit of the majority of the people - and then some! Our political climate has dramatically derailed this goal by dividing our nation. However, we can always take back our flag - take back our values - take back our rural ways of life - and take back what it means to be a united front. Below is the original post by Barack Obama and the response from a loved friend who recognizes our "dirt road" lifestyle and our desire to build up our communities. We should all be proud to pull up our boot straps and then turn to those next to us and help them pull up their straps as well. Cheers to you all and I hope to see you next Thursday for our annual Normal and Shirly Miller Leadership Dinner - TOGETHER!MistyChair P.S. And for the love of America - #ProtectOurPublicLands ... Take this special opportunity to enjoy engaging Democratic leaders, connect with fellow Democrats and friends from across the community, and celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary together.

Our annual fundraising event proudly honors Franklin County Senator Valoria Loveland. We are truly delighted to gather with you in celebration of her dedicated service, while also inspiring and supporting the next generation of leaders to step forward and run for office.

Seating is limited, so we encourage you to reserve your tickets early to be part of this meaningful and memorable evening.

Proceeds from this dinner will directly support Democratic candidates running for office in our community this year—helping to build a strong and vibrant future for us all.

A heartfelt thank you to LOCAL UA598 for their continued generosity and support
