Move On – August 15, 2024

Posted on August 15, 2024

Unleash your inner activist. Start a petition today!

It’s Valeria from the MoveOn team! As a MoveOn member, you have signed a couple of petitions, if not more, and you know how good it feels to bring about change in your community. As you know, petitions are one of the most powerful tools we have to demonstrate our collective power, and you’re just the person we need to kickstart the next big movement!

“Let’s start a petition!” “Will you sign this petition?” You’ve probably read these phrases from our team more times than you can count. But did you know petitions have been a cornerstone of democratic action for centuries? From ancient Egyptian workers demanding better conditions to the early Americans shaping policy, petitions have been a way for people to band together and demand change throughout time.1

Petitions have proven again and again that they are a powerful tool for shaping our world. Start a petition and be part of history!

When you start a petition, you’re creating a documented record of collective will that decision-makers can’t ignore. And guess what? It works! For example Aaron in California successfully advocated for extending hotel vouchers for San Diego flood victims. And UFCW Local 152 workers in New Jersey who won their fight for a just union contract. These victories started with someone just like you, deciding to take action. Your petition could be next!

The beauty of online petitions is their ability to reach and mobilize people quickly. After an online petition gains traction, a few things can happen. It might be delivered to the target audience, like a government official or a company, drawing direct attention to the issue. Media attention often follows, amplifying the cause even further. And in some cases, these petitions have even led to changes in policy or legislation. That’s the power of collective voices coming together!

Start a petition

The power of online petitions is without measures. You can raise awareness and shine a spotlight on an issue, rallying people to your cause and pushing it onto the agenda. With MoveOn’s free petition platform, you can share your petition on social media, email it to your friends, and with a click of a link it can be discovered far and wide.

You can build community, by creating a network of individuals passionate about the same issue. This community can share information, organize events, and take collective action. Our petition platform allows you to email everyone who signed your petition and let them know about all the different ways they can continue to take action. You can invite them to protests and rallies or even send them calls to action like writing a letter or contacting elected officials about your cause. There are numerous instances where petitions have led to tangible changes in policy or legislation. Make your petition the next success story. Start a petition today!

Once your petition gains traction, it doesn’t stop there. You’ll deliver it to the intended recipients, whether it’s local government, a corporation, or another organization. This step is crucial in ensuring that the voices of the people are heard. Starting a petition on MoveOn’s free petition platform makes that step simple and with just a few clicks!

Sometimes, these petitions garner significant media coverage, leading to interviews, articles, and broader public discussion. This not only helps people know about your petition but also raises awareness and allows people to rally behind your cause. And yes, MoveOn’s platform team can help you get connected with the right people to make real change!

So, what are you waiting for? Dive in, start your petition today, and let’s create change! Your voice matters, and together, we can build a better world.

Thanks for all you do.

–Valeria, Aliya, Jensine, Isbah, and the rest of the team

You’re receiving this petition because we thought it might interest you. It was created on MoveOn.org, where anyone can start their own online petitions. You can start your own petition here.

Want to support MoveOn? The MAGA right is declaring war, and Project 2025 is their battle plan. Project 2025 threatens our rights, attacks communities of color, hurts middle- and working-class families, and undermines our democracy. But we will not back down or let Trump steamroll our nation.

Will you donate to power MoveOn’s election plan, stop Trump, and ensure Project 2025 is never enacted?

Yes, I’ll chip in.

ADDICTION not only disrupts lives but also has significant social and economic impacts for the larger community. Opening of the Columbia Valley Center for Recovery represents a major advancement in the regional services needed to help address addiction challenges.

In recognition of the opening of the Center for Recovery, the August 5 Badger Club Forum will feature an important conversation about causes, prevention and treatment of addiction. Two experts will consider what addiction is; the gap between what we know and what we do; what the community is and can be doing; what families need to know; and substance abuse prevention and looking to the future.
