Our bill to create a Wage Replacement program for undocumented workers has reached a critical point and we need your help: the Washington Senate is holding a hearing on our bill TOMORROW, Wednesday February 26 and we need them to vote YES on Senate Bill 5626. We also need to urge the House to hold a hearing on the companion bill (House Bill 1773) by the end of the week in order to move it forward.
Washington’s undocumented workers make up nearly one in five workers in the state, and are a cornerstone of our state’s economy and culture. They keep our fields harvested, our food prepared, and our neighborhoods clean and safe. And yet, when they lose their jobs through no fault of their own, they are left with no support to fall back on because of their immigration status.
There are TWO urgent actions that you can take right now to ensure excluded undocumented workers can access this crucial support in times of economic hardship:
Send a letter calling on the WA Senate Ways & Means Committee to Vote YES on SB 5626!
In the last decade alone, nearly $400 million have been contributed to the state unemployment trust on behalf of undocumented workers, and they have yet to receive a single dollar back due to their immigration status. This wage replacement program would provide a lifeline to thousands of immigrant families, ensuring that when a crisis hits, they can still pay rent, buy food, and care for their loved ones. It’s past time to right this wrong and ensure undocumented workers get the support they’ve always deserved and rightfully earned.

Nuestro proyecto de ley para crear un programa de sustitución salarial para trabajadores indocumentados ha llegado a un punto muy importante y necesitamos su ayuda: el Senado de Washington tendrá una audiencia sobre nuestro proyecto de ley MAÑANA, miércoles 26 de febrero, y necesitamos que voten SÍ al proyecto de ley 5626 del Senado. También necesitamos exigir a la Cámara de Representantes que tenga una audiencia sobre el proyecto de ley que lo acompaña (House Bill 1773) antes de que termine la semana para que pueda avanzar.
Los trabajadores indocumentados de Washington representan casi uno de cada cinco trabajadores del estado, y son parte fundamental de la economía y la cultura de nuestro estado.
