On February 20th, The Senate Committee on Health & Long-Term Care will hear Senate Bill 5273, a critical, life-saving piece of legislation that we MUST ensure advances.
SB 5273 recognizes that the impact of gun violence doesn’t vanish once physical wounds heal. Too often, survivors face the risk of reinjury or retaliatory violence if their trauma remains unaddressed. By establishing Medicaid reimbursement pathways for Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Programs (HVIPs), this bill expands access to the trauma-informed and culturally competent care that can break the cycle of harm. Research confirms the impact of these programs.
Please act now by sending a letter asking the Senate Committee on Health & Long-Term Care to SUPPORT SB 5273. Your voice is absolutely essential towards making this bill move forward. Our communities depend on these interventions – will you add your voice today?
